“Because of their … anonymous presence (vessels) often transcend their initial function and become works of art to observers at another time and place.”
Lewis Krevolin, a major collector of pre-contact pottery from the Americas
Based on fashion designs by Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Herman Miller, Furla, Prada, and Ralph Lauren, “Goblets” explores, through a series of digitally created vessel shaped images, the relationships between contemporary couture design and the humble idea of the cup or tumbler. The goblet’s ubiquitous presence throughout the history of civilization fascinates me. Used for everything from storage and transportation to the final resting place for the deceased, they came in all shapes and sizes. There are even vessels employed in cultures where people did not wear clothing.
